Operation Broken Wing - CrossFit For A Good Cause

Athletes are readying to band together in aid of Youth At Risk for this year's Operation Broken Wing (OBW). Founded in 2011 and organised this year by Innervate CrossFit, OBW is an annual charity event that beckons athletes and fitness enthusiasts to perform a Fight For Hope CrossFit workout. Each participant enters with a sponsor who will donate a set amount of money per rep performed by the athlete. All funds raised are donated to REACH Community Services Society and youths under the benefit of REACH.

“We are very encouraged by the responses this year and truly looking forward to Operation Broken Wing 2016. The event serves as an interactional space to help beneficiaries forge relationships with youths from other social circles cultivating their social capital and aspirations. The support that we are getting truly proves,” says Lionel Choong, organiser and coach at Innervate CrossFit.

296 athletes have signed up to date. Grouped in sessions of 40 athletes, each athlete will rotate through 5 stations: Rows (for calories), Burpees, Kettle Bell Swings, Push Press and Box Jumps, with 1 minute at each station to complete as many reps as possible. Athletes will complete a gruelling 3 rounds with just 1 minute break between each round.

For the first time, there will also be fringe challenges at OBW. Each fringe challenge is adopted by various partners, such as the Under Armour Core Challenge where if you successfully accomplish the 2 minute hold, you will be entitled to a Paracord wristband. The Balmoral Chiropractic Centre Dead Lift Off is another fringe challenge where athletes have 2 minutes to dial in a 1 Rep Max deadlift (BCC will donate $0.02/per pound of the 1RM per person).

All are welcome to come down to the event and support the athletes, join in the fun and try your hand at a fringe challenge! Operation Broken Wing will be held at Ground Level, *Scape Playspace on 15 October 2016 from 8am to 4pm.
