Quest Bars are the world's best selling protein snack - a simple, straightforward go-to anytime you have a sugar craving, or need a protein-packed, nutritious snack. They're one of the most convenient healthy foods around, and are easy enough to tote around in your bag or lunchbox. On top of that, Quest Nutrition has attempted to satisfy every sweet tooth under the sun with tons of dessert-based Quest Bars with none of the guilt.

Quest Bars are gluten-free, have no added sugar and are soy-free, making it perfect for those with allergies, sensitive stomachs, or are on a low-sugar diet. They also use as much natural ingredients as possible, making it a clean snack that's hard to beat.

They recently released a new flavour, Mocha Chocolate Chip. Here's what we think about it.

WHAT'S IN IT

This quest bar contains 180 calories, with 20g of protein, 6g of fat, and 4g of net carbs. It's caffeine-free. Ingredients include a protein blend comprising milk protein isolate and whey protein isolatesoluble corn fibre, almondsnatural flavouringsunsweetened chocolate, and cocoa butter.

Milk protein isolate is a by-product of skimmed milk. It's a commonplace ingredient in foods that have milk-based flavours, from yogurt to bottled milk shakes and such. With 90% protein, milk protein isolate is a very flavourful inclusion to get the Quest Bar tasting rich, and slightly milky without the calories. Also, the processing of milk protein isolate removes a significant amount of the lactose from the milk.

Whey protein isolate is a whey protein that is more filtered down. You get 90% protein purity without the fat, lactose and carbohydrates. Compared to whey protein concentrate, it is absorbed faster into your bloodstream and delivers its benefits to your muscles faster.

Soluble corn fibre is a prebiotic fibre that you don't digest, but aids your digestion. It helps you keep full, and while it contributes to the total carbohydrates of the Quest Bar, you don't digest it, making it negligible of sorts.

Almonds are one of the most popular healthy snacks because of its high level of Vitamin E, healthy fats, antioxidants and magnesium. Almonds are extremely rich in nutrients, and they help curb sugar cravings due to its ability to regulate your blood sugar levels.

Natural flavourings, unsweetened chocolate, and cocoa butterare some of the flavours added to Mocha Chocolate Chip Quest Bars to give it its distinct flavour. Because the bar is caffeine-free, but chocolate flavoured, flavourings were used to impart the taste of coffee instead of the actual ingredient.

FLAVOURS AND TASTE

Despite having no coffee in it, it tastes exactly like a mocha chocolate chip frappuccino would, without the cloying sweetness and sugar dump. The real unsweetened chocolate bits add a welcome hint of bitterness to the bar, balancing out the sweetness from the stevia and the cocoa butter.

HOW YOU SHOULD TAKE IT

Have a Quest Bar literally anytime, anywhere. Enjoy it as a snack, as breakfast, or as a way to hit your protein macros. It can even be taken as a post-workout snack because it contains whey protein isolate. If you don't like how chewy the Quest Bar is, microwave it for 15 seconds to get a soft, gooey treat.

PRICE

With 12 bars per box at $38, you pay about $3 a bar. Each bar is rather sizeable, and you're reaping a ton of nutrients from it, so it definitely justifies the cost. It's also cheaper than most nutrition or protein bars you can purchase from health food stores.

WHO SHOULD TAKE IT

Everyone can! There's no specific person that ought to take a Quest Bar over another. If you have a busy lifestyle, Quest Bars are best suited for you as it is so travel-friendly, that you can eat on the go.
