Cellucor C4 Ripped is a pre-workout designed to improve your gym performance while helping you burn fat. Unlike most pre-workouts, this one comes without creatine. Creatine is a popular inclusion as it aids in mass gaining, which is not what someone looking to lose weight would desire. Instead of creatine, C4 Ripped uses fat burning ingredients to provide you with energy, and additional ingredients to give you the energy to survive intense workouts.
So how does C4 Ripped perform? We break down the product to test its effectiveness.
WHAT'S IN IT
C4 contains two proprietary blends of ingredients. The first is the Ripped Blend which comprises L-Carinitine Tartrate, Green Coffee Bean Extract, Capsimax Cayenne, and Coleous Forskohlii Root Extract. The second blend is the Explosive Energy Blend, which contains Beta-Alanine, Arginine, N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine, and Velvet Bean.
L-Carnitine is an amino acid that is fundamental to aiding fat loss. It transfers fatty acids to be oxidised for energy, while reducing fatigue. This allows you to power through your workout. It also functions as an appetite suppressant and reduces your body's capacity to store fat.
Green Coffee Bean Extract is a supplement and antioxidant that improves how your body metabolises fat. Made from unroasted coffee beans, is known for aiding weight loss.
Capsimax Cayenne is derived from capsicum peppers, and is used to incite thermogenesis for fat burning in your body. Thermogenesis is the process whereby you experience an increase in your metabolism that causes your body to burn more fat, even when at rest. It also promotes lipolysis, which is where your body breaks down fat. Coleus Forskholii Root Extract performs a similar function.
Beta-Alanine is an amino acid that raises the level of carnosine in your muscles. This prevents your muscles from accumulating hydrogen ions during exercise, lessening fatigue and soreness.
Arginine is a powerful amino acid typically found in foods like red meat. It helps improve blood flow and circulation, and converts into nitric oxide. This serves to widen your blood vessels, allowing more oxygen to saturate your muscles for longer, thus improving performance.
N-acetyl-l-tyrosine is a derivative of tyrosine, an amino acid that is required for your brain to produce its three core stimulants: dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. This results in an overall boost of energy, and increased focus, keeping you sharp throughout your workout.
Velvet Bean Extract, also known as mucuna pruriens, is a herb that is rich in l-dopa, an amino acid that lowers blood sugar and cholesterol levels. It also increases human growth hormone production in your body, which is essential to gaining lean muscle and burning fat.
FLAVOURS AND TASTE
C4 Ripped comes in two flavours, raspberry lemonade and tropical fruit. The flavours taste fruity, are slightly sweet, but without any chemical aftertastes. There's also a hint of tartness, as if you were drinking a refreshing fruit punch.
HOW YOU SHOULD TAKE IT
Take one scoop of C4 Ripped 20 to 30 mins before working out. Mix it with iced water to drink. You will experience some tingling, but it is nothing to worry about and should go away after 15 mins. One extremely important thing to note: this should not be taken within a six hour window of you taking any stimulants or caffeine. You should also never exceed two scoops a day. This is due to the potent caffeine content, which may cause your cardiovascular functions to go into overdrive, which is really the last thing you want.
At $65 for 30 servings, you're getting a pretty decent deal. To some, it may sound pricey, but consider how much having to take both a fat burner and a pre-workout will cost. C4 Ripped is definitely a more cost-effective supplement that kills two birds with one stone.
WHO SHOULD TAKE IT
C4 Ripped is for anyone looking to lose fat, better your performance and gain muscle mass. If you've got a strict gym routine, but have perhaps hit a plateau, or you're looking to get leaner pre-competition, definitely try the C4 Ripped.
