You may be familiar with the brand MaxiNutrition, as they're one of the biggest players in the European sports nutrition market. Labelled as the best selling protein brand in the UK, MaxiNutriton has been building its presence in Singapore since 2010, and its latest rebranding is set to cement their reputation even more.
With their men's range back to the original MaxiMuscle branding, the brand has presented new formulations for their popular supplements, including Promax protein powder. We've covered the previous version of Promax here, as well as Promax Lean here, for your reference.
You're getting 25g of whey protein per serving, alongside 7g BCAAs, and a low fat and sugar count. This is significantly different from the previous Promax, which contained a whopping 30g of protein per serving, 6.4g of glutamine, and 8.1g of BCAAs. This might seem like a downgrade, but read on to find out the truth behind the numbers.
Here's what to expect with the new formula.
WHAT'S IN IT
MaxiMuscle Promax contains their patented BioMax Whey True Protein matrix, BCAAs, Glutamine and Magnesium.
The earlier formula of Promax contained a blend of different proteins to release at different speeds throughout the day. There was a mix of fast-acting whey, medium-releasing soy proteins, and long-acting casein. The new MaxiMuscle Promax, however, wants to deliver as much fast-acting protein into your system as possible with its new BioMax Whey True Protein blend. This is a blend of rapidly digestible amino acids, ensuring that you'll obtain your dose faster after you've hit the gym. This means a greater propensity for gains, as well as faster recovery rates. Although there seems to be lesser overall protein in the new formula, you're actually getting an increase in whey protein, which is the one that matters in the short term.
BCAAs are definitely a much-welcome addition to this protein powder. BCAAs are essential amino acids that comprise of leucine, isoleucine and valine. They're ideal for improving your performance, boosting your strength, amping up your gains, and repairing muscle. You get 7g per serving, which is definitely no small amount.
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in your muscles, and every time you work out, your glutamine stores take a hard hit. Its imperative that you replenish them, as a lack in glutamine could cause your muscles to break down, increasing inflammation, as well as your gains going to waste. Each serving contains 11.7g of glutamine, which is an increase from the previous edition.
Magnesium is a mineral that is essential to your body. It has a ton of benefits, especially for your cardiovascular system. Magnesium also promotes an increase in energy, your metabolism rate, as well as the growth of strong bones. As weightlifting is taxing on your joints, having a healthy skeletal system is imperative to reducing your chances of injury.
FLAVOURS AND TASTE
There are three basic flavours available: chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. While the formula has changed, Maximuscle has not skimped on taste at all. They've retained the amazing consistency and quality of their earlier formulations, so if you're a longtime fan, don't sweat it.
HOW YOU SHOULD TAKE IT
Mix one serving with milk or water and consume twice a day when you train — one shake after your workout, and one more in the mid-morning or afternoon. On your rest days, just take it either mid-morning or mid afternoon.
At S$69 for 32 servings, you're getting a pretty good deal. As a gauge, the previous edition retailed at a higher price for lesser servings. For the amount of protein and other amino acid goodies you're getting in a tub of the Promax, the price can't be beat.
WHO SHOULD TAKE IT
The beauty of this new Promax formula is that its more versatile. Anyone looking for a great protein powder can take it, whether you're a beginner or a pro. It is so straightforward. This is just fast-acting protein without playing with various types and release speeds. For those who are put off by convoluted ingredients or jargon, this is one for you.
